Description

"The flag is flown upside-down as an official distress signal...that Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness has been compromised."

So, the 2016 presidential election happened...it's a thing, now.  Donald Trump is the 45th president of the United States.

The world (and half of the USA) is, quite understandably, horrified.

We need to talk about this.

Listen...we can throw blame around all day...and there are many to blame for Trump becoming president.

However, the point of this isn't to throw around blame; I'll do that on my own time.  The point of this is because I want to talk to all of you.

A lot of people are terrified...I have many friends in the LGBT community (heck, the FC that I'm in for FFXIV is all LGBT). I'm afraid of what's going to happen to them, especially the ones in states which are much less tolerant. I'm terrified of what's going to happen to my friends who aren't white...I'm afraid a little of what's going to happen to me because I'm disabled. Though not as much of a target, Trump's stances on the disabled were not good ones.

These are definitely dark times we're treading into, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just as scared...if I wasn't just as terrified.

Even my friends who are straight, white men are terrified.  To quote one of my friends who falls in that category:

"It doesn't matter if I have first class tickets on a ship.  If the entire ship goes down, I'm going down with it just like everyone else."

People are (rightfully) afraid of the increase in hate crimes and what's going to happen to people of color...to people of different religions...to people who are disabled...to veterans...to women......to anyone who's not a straight, white man.

And even some of them are terrified.

I think now, more than ever, is when we all have to stick together. Those of us who are against hate and segregation, who did not want this, who did everything we safely could to have a nation which, though it might not be ideal, is still a safe place with someone who isn't a racist leading it...
We need to stick together.

If the darkness is leading the country, then WE need to be the light. It's on OUR shoulders to help one another and do what's right by sticking together and helping one another.

Those petty differences everyone has...those little grievances...put them aside, please.

If you have a problem with your neighbor because maybe they keep parking in your spot, or their dog is too loud, or their kids once wrecked your mailbox...

...those are first world problems, now.

If you go to school, and you have a classmate who is different, or even one who just rubs you the wrong way...stop.  I know it's not easy, and you don't have to like them, but just put aside those issues for now, because everyone NEEDS to band together.

Teachers should be encouraging friendship, cooperation, and kindness...as should parents.

My point is that all these little problems we have with one another, whether we like someone personally or have some sort of issue with them...we need to rewire our brains to put that aside for the sake of the greater good.

The light in the darkness is us:

It's our ability to be kind to one another.

It's our ability to forgive minor issues we have with one another.

It's our ability to be open-minded.

It's our ability to LOVE.

It's our ability to CARE.

A single light in the darkness can't do much, but thousands upon millions of lights can illuminate the entire area.

Let's be the lights.

Let's put aside differences...trolls, stop trolling the internet; stop being petty.  There's a much greater threat to our happiness and YOUR happiness in the form of "racism".

Even if you're a straight, white, American male...again, once the ship goes down, there's no lifeboat for you; you're going down with it.

So stop making others miserable...please.

Treat others respectfully, whether you see them face to face or on the internet.

This is the ONLY way we can combat the hatred, racism, and fear which we all expect to occur now that Trump is president.

We have to be KIND.

We have to be THOUGHTFUL.

We have to HELP, not harm, one another.

Stick together.

Stay together.

Help, care, be kind...

"Only light can banish the darkness" (Hydaelen; FFXIV)

Let's be that light.

Please...put aside petty differences; put aside petty squabbles.

Just BE A GOOD PERSON.

If the "top" of the country isn't going to do it, then WE have to.  It's on OUR shoulders to bear the mistakes of the ones in power.  And the way to do that is to be KIND, OPEN-MINDED, and ACCEPTING OF OTHERS.

People are so much more than a skin color; than a religion; than a disability; than a sexual orientation, etc.

We're so much more than that, and now we need to SHOW it.

My fellow Americans, please...we're heading into choppy waters and dark times on an unstable ship.

Maybe we can't fix the ship, but in the very least, we can repair it as best as we can.

Keep the ship afloat with KINDNESS.

We can get through this; We just need to band together.

Love, not hate.

Acceptance, not racism.

Kinship, not division.

Peace, not chaos.

Please, be the best person you can in these times.  Please think of the values of life, of kindness...

And let's do it together.  Stick together, love and accept one another.

Now is the time.

Become a light, not part of the darkness.

LOVE & HOPE

Truer words could not be spoken. We ALL have to stand together; anxious, autistic, hyperactive, inattentive, schizophrenic, traumatised, obsessive-compulsive, or NT.
